Nubian woodpecker in shadow on old acacia tree
Male Nubian woodpecker (Campethera nubica) with nictitating membrane half drawn, perched on old acacia tree trunk and foraging in cracks of bark for insects. Tonalities of the tree bark are mirrored in the bird plumage. Captured in Central Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
